During World War II, Bulgaria reclaimed Southern Dobruja (Cadrilaterul) in September 1940. As part of the Treaty of Craiova, all Romanian inhabitants were forced to leave the territory. Veta Pasvantu (Batin) was one of the Romanian refugee children who experienced life in Southern Dobruja and the cross-border population exchange between Bulgaria and Romania.
